A live business trip to the U.K. to learn about the local work culture and etiquettes
Duration : 60 mins Max Size : 100 Destination : London
Category : United Kingdom Recommended For : Workforces
Subject :
Business and work culture is a complex concept and it can be a challenge for those who are relatively new to an international environment. There are certain aspects of work culture that cannot be taught by experienced staff members or found in company policy manuals. Personal experience, observation, or even real-life situations encountered by colleagues from other countries can be the best way to learn about international business culture.
On this live, interactive, one-of-a-kind session, learners will take a virtual 'business trip' to the U.K. where they will visit and spend time at the offices of a local business. Over the course of the session, attendees will gain a thorough insight into workplace culture and business etiquettes in the U.K.
A unique session like this is essential for International businesses wanting to educate their staff about the British work culture so that they may operate as a global team. It's also advantageous for those who move to the U.K. to adapt into the local workplace culture.
The session is divided into three parts;
Part 1: You will be welcomed by counterparts at the local business in the U.K. and escorted into the office. You will take a guided tour of the office and be introduced to team members.
Part 2: You will engage in a discussion about work culture, local business practices and uk business etiquettes with your host counterparts.
You will discover, for example, that in the United Kingdom it is acceptable to address a senior colleague by their first names. (A practice that would usually meet with disapproval in most asian countries). You would learn that in U.K. business culture, it is important to be punctual for meetings as people take time as a given commodity. Your hosts will explain how its not uncommon to find British jargon in workplaces—it's important that learners understand these words/phrases which may not be found in a dictionary or equivalents.
You will have opportunity to ask questions and learn how uk business culture differs from your own.
Part 3: In the final part of the session students will be divided into two separate teams, and each will be paired with a different staff member from the U.K. office. Each group will be put into a breakout room and have 20 minutes to discuss and work on a joint assignment. The uk staff member will be available to answer questions and guide each group through the process.
Role play and live interactions, particularly with native speakers, are known to have greater impact in learning about the local culture than simply learning out of a book.
This office interaction will certainly help cement knowledge about U.K. work culture and pave the way for more effective conversations.
