Overview

With more than 2.3 billion followers, Christianity, which began in the 1st century in the Roman province of Judea, is the world’s largest religion. The four largest branches of Christianity are the Catholic Church (comprising of 1.3 billion followers), Protestantism (900 million followers), Eastern Orthodox Church (230 million) and the Oriental Orthodox churches (62 million followers).

The Christian faith centers around the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Christians believe that one god created the heavens and earth and this divine godhead consists of three parts the father (God), his son (Jesus) and the Holy spirit. Christians believe that God the father sent his son Jesus to save the world. They believe that Jesus was crucified on a cross to offer forgiveness of the sins of humanity and was resurrected three days later before ascending to heaven.

The Bible is the holy book followed by Christians around the world and includes scriptures outlining the teachings of Jesus and instructions on how Christians should live. Important festivals in Christianity include Christmas (which celebrates the birth of Jesus) and Easter (which marks the resurrection of Jesus after his death on the cross).

In this session, students will travel to the birthplace of Christianity- Rome- and get the opportunity to visit a grand church with our presenter, who is an expert of Christianity. Students will have the opportunity to see different parts of the church, its high ceilings, frescoes, decorations, and altar. They will also be able to ask questions and gain firsthand insights about Christianity.

Note: Our sessions are designed to give learners an insight into different traditional and cultural practices and do not promote any religious beliefs.
